Right choice for a stock business

Reliable through two VAT inspections and a bank refinance. The inspectors know Sage output when they see it, which quietly helps.

Squeezed until we looked elsewhere

We stayed for the stock module and the history. This year the maths finally said move, and honestly the relief in the office was telling.

Cannot recommend anymore

Repeated crashes on our multi user setup, a data repair that cost us a consultancy fee, and a renewal quote higher than ever. Whatever goodwill remained is spent.

It served us well for many years before the decline.

Survived our BRC audit, our bank refinance and a factory move

A food business gets audited by everyone, certification bodies, the bank, customers. Sage 50 has produced whatever evidence each of them wanted, batch traceability worked through stock records, aged debt for the bank, departmental costs for the board. It is the system of record and nobody questions it.

The audit trail satisfies every inspector we have had. Stock with bills of materials covers our production kitting. Departmental reporting per production line. Support, when we did need them for a data check, were excellent and stayed on until fixed.

Cons

Getting data out for the new BI tool needed the ODBC route and some patience. Users beyond the first few get expensive.

Proper accounting software

Our bookkeeper posts a week of invoices in an hour using nothing but the keyboard. Watch someone quick on Sage 50 and you understand why offices refuse to give it up.

Strong ledgers, average interface

Support have been decent whenever we called, the product is stable, and MTD has been faultless. The renewal negotiation is now an annual fixture though.

Squeezed until we looked elsewhere

Between the base rise, the user charges and the module extras, our bill has nearly doubled in four years. We are actively trialling alternatives for the first time in fifteen years.
